Pixpro 1.7.11 - Seamless Model Sharing

Mar 20, 2025

We are keeping the development cycle relatively short these days, so here is a new update to our photogrammetry software. Update 1.7.11 brings improvements related to our cloud service. The cloud service is available to all our users. It enables everyone to process photogrammetric projects even without a powerful machine. Our cloud service is straightforward to use, and now it comes with a few improvements.

Pixpro Version 1.7.8 - Timeline and Speed

3D Model Sharing

We now have our own 3D mesh-sharing workflow. It is still in the early stages but has the basics working. We can share a model straight from the cloud service with a single button press. The only prerequisites are a successfully processed project with the 3D mesh selected as one of the required layers. The sharing service will allow anyone with the link to view the 3D model in a 3D viewer. It will be hosted for 14 days and will not require any additional charges or subscriptions.

We added a minor new feature that brings a lot of flexibility to our processing workflows. Now, we can continue processing local projects on the cloud, which provides several benefits:

  • Pre-checking 3D reconstruction: You can check if the 3D reconstruction is successful (or good enough quality) locally and then continue processing on the cloud. This is very handy when you're unsure about the captured data. If you suspect it might fail—perhaps due to poor photo quality—you can run the first step locally and see if it is worth completing in full. The 3D reconstruction step is much less resource-intensive than dense point cloud generation, so you can run it even on less powerful machines.

  • Adjusting settings for better results: If the 3D reconstruction is unsuccessful, you can change advanced settings and use a successful reconstruction as the basis for the entire project. We offer multiple algorithm options, which may work better for different scenarios. If the default settings produce an unacceptable result, you can test a different setting and continue. This is important because we do not yet have the option to choose the algorithm during complete cloud processing.

  • Using ground control points (GCPs): Adding ground control points locally to the 3D reconstruction is much easier than doing a complete cloud workflow. Now, we can do that and then process the remaining layers on the cloud. This way, we get the best of both worlds.

These three improvements and the general flexibility of partitioning different parts of the project across various processing resources are significant quality-of-life enhancements.

Our home screen interface also received a few minor improvements. Now, we can rename and delete projects from inside the software without needing to browse Windows Explorer—another quality-of-life feature that helps with data management.

Pixpro-1711-New-Wizard-FeaturesAdditionally, we now support photos without altitude information but with XY coordinates only. This particular scenario sometimes occurs with terrestrial geotagged photos. Such support is experimental, as not having altitude information can introduce some inaccuracies. However, depending on the specific case, you may still achieve proper scaling and orientation with non-drone photos. We will continue improving this as more testing is conducted.

Conclusion

As always, there are bug fixes and minor improvements under the hood. Most of these come from the feedback we receive from our users with real-life use cases. Do not hesitate to contact us if you find something wrong or missing from our software. Many new features are implemented as a direct result of user feedback. The best way to reach us is via email or Discord.
